Young Mosasaur at Chalk Lagoon
Observation
At 08:30 local time the observation team recorded a young mosasaur near the southwest shallows of Chalk Lagoon. The individual stayed close to the surface, producing frequent short splashes and occasionally lifting its head above water as if examining the coastal vegetation.
The animal showed no signs of aggression and avoided feeding stations and personnel zones. Wide-angle images reveal small fish schooling nearby and several Pteranodon low flights searching for prey above the water.
Staff note steady respiration and normal mobility — indicators that the young mosasaur is not currently compromised. Observation intervals have been increased temporarily to monitor behavior throughout the day until the animal moves deeper into the lagoon.
Visitors are asked to keep their distance from the water's edge and not to provoke the animal with noise — interactions between young marine predators and birds here can be unpredictable, but for now the situation remains calm.
