Stranded Young Mosasaur
Incident
At 07:20 local time a juvenile mosasaur was sighted on a shallow exposed chalk bar in Chalk Lagoon. The animal was energetic but unable to negotiate the narrow chalk ridge as the water receded, becoming increasingly vulnerable with the falling tide.
Several Pteranodons from the nearby Ptero Cliffs circled overhead, forming a restless band in the sky and keeping watch. No large predators were detected nearby, but the youngster risked exhaustion and overheating if left stranded on the shallows.
The caretaker deployed inflatable mats and guiding ropes to create a gentle corridor back to deeper water. The operation was slow and deliberate: the mosasaur initially resisted but, after gentle encouragement and carefully timed nudges, moved steadily toward the main channel.
Within thirty minutes the juvenile slipped back into the lagoon’s deeper water and disappeared beneath the surface. The sector remained under observation for two hours, during which patrols monitored the mosasaur’s condition and the Pteranodons’ activity; the birds later drifted back toward the cliffs. No injuries were reported and the incident is now closed, a reminder of how precarious coastal passages can become at low tide.
