Straggler Calf in Sector B-12
Incident
This morning in Sector B-12, where the longnecks are migrating, observers spotted a lone young Diplodocus that had fallen behind the main caravan. The animal appeared tired but uninjured — it was trying to keep up with adults but kept losing its bearings over the uneven ground.
The park team quickly set up a safety perimeter and dispatched an escort unit. The goal was to guide the calf gently along the herd's trail, avoiding force; longnecks respond best to the presence of relatives and the steady movement and sounds of the caravan.
Monitoring continued for roughly two hours: the calf paused for short rests and feedings, then moved with more vigour as it approached the lead groups. By midday the youngster had rejoined one of the forward-marching groups; staff will maintain observation until the animal fully settles back into the herd's rhythm.
