Skyward Scouts at Ptero Cliffs
Observation
Throughout the day Ptero Cliffs have seen a rise in low, investigative flights by Pteranodons: adults perform short reconnaissance sweeps along the cliff edge while subadults stay nearer the nests. The uptick in activity appears linked to the recent sighting of a juvenile mosasaur in Chalk Lagoon — the Pteranodons are assessing feeding opportunities and the safety of the coastal zone.
The birds make use of warm cliff updrafts, executing quick turns and occasional low passes toward the water to inspect shifting shadows below. At present the behavior remains largely investigative rather than predatory — brief calls, circling over specific points, then returning to nesting ledges dominate the pattern.
Several nests along the lower cliff face show increased provisioning: adults are bringing more small catches and delivering food to fledglings. Observers note heightened vigilance but no cause for intervention; the activity is consistent with natural foraging responses to a temporary coastal food source.
