At first light the rim of Ptero Cliffs came alive with soft wing-beats as juvenile Pteranodons ran through short practice glides, dipping toward the Chalk Lagoon breeze. Observers noted a variety of launch positions—from sunlit ledges to narrow rock crevices—used during the exercises.
The maneuvers were measured and purposeful: brief descents, turns over the water and careful returns to the nests. This stage is an important step between nest-bound dependence and full flight, amplified by the recent increase in nesting activity.
Park staff kept their distance, recording trajectories and airspeed to track progress and adjust monitoring schedules if needed. Conditions favored the drills today: calm weather and a steady sea breeze provided gentle lift for the youngsters.
