Column's Detour
Migration
At first light in sector B-12 a herd of Diplodocus was observed making an unexpected turn off its usual path, heading southeast toward the low ridges near Fern Forest. The detour was deliberate and coordinated — juveniles kept tight ranks while larger adults guarded the flanks.
Rangers suggest the deviation may be due to a temporary shortage of forage along the regular route or a deliberate search for softer vegetation in sheltered hollows. No predatory activity has been reported from Predator Ridge, nor disturbances from Chalk Lagoon — conditions remain calm but warrant continued observation.
The herd is progressing at a deliberate pace, pausing frequently to feed and regroup. Patrol teams will shadow the column to the forest boundary and will adjust crossing protections if needed to minimize overlap with other herbivore territories and reduce stress on the animals.
These observations will provide insight into Diplodocus route flexibility and how they respond to local landscape changes. Updates will follow as the column advances.
