Incident
This evening, during a peak in nesting activity at Ptero Cliffs, two Pteranodons crossed paths in a sudden gust and collided above the lower terrace. A young male cried out and fell onto a sloping ledge, sustaining abrasions; the other managed to flap away but showed signs of disorientation.
The on-duty keeper team immediately enacted the cliff safety protocol: part of the area was cordoned off, ground crews moved in, and a temporary observation point was established on the ledge. Both animals remained relatively calm at first; the injured individual was assessed in place, superficial wounds were treated, and preparations were made for transport if necessary.
The second Pteranodon was left undisturbed after it sheltered in a tucked niche on the escarpment — monitoring continues to check for hidden injuries. Nesting intensity remains high, so staff request that visitors and personnel avoid loud approaches to cliff edges for the next 48 hours.
