Awkward First Flights

This morning the Ptero Cliffs echoed with a flurry of shallow wingbeats as several recently hatched Pteranodons attempted their first sorties from the nests, gliding only a few meters before settling back on nearby ledges. Each run looks hesitant, punctuated by quick, uncertain landings.

Adult Pteranodons remain close, offering food and quiet encouragement between attempts. Today’s gentle breeze is helping: calm air makes the initial glides less punishing and gives the juveniles room to learn wing control.

Park staff are observing from a respectful distance, noting timestamps and distances for each trial. No serious incidents have been recorded — falls are generally arrested by stepped ledges and soft spoil accumulations that act as natural cushions.
