A Young Eye from the Lagoon
Observation
At midday staff recorded a juvenile mosasaur along the western shallows of Chalk Lagoon. The animal surfaced in short bursts, investigating warm patches and the chalky shallows. Its movements were wary: smooth approaches followed by quick withdrawals at the slightest disturbance from the shore.
The mosasaur showed interest in small schools of fish at the waterline, shadowing them in brief, jerking dives. Observers noted it stayed largely within visible range and did not venture into the lagoon's deeper channels — behaviour typical for a young individual mapping its surroundings.
Team members will continue monitoring: the behaviour is not presently alarming but merits regular checks to ensure the juvenile avoids areas of human activity. Photographic records were obtained from a safe distance and no intervention is planned.
